When the War of the Purge drove the rats from the City’s three remaining districts and into the bay, when they were at their most desperate, clinging to anything that would keep them above the waves, the Sorceress called for them. She spoke into their minds and told them of a new home, a place they would be welcomed, a place free of from the persecution of the Woodland Realms and their Gard. And so the rats came and they found what would become known simply as Float: the great hulks of the ancients sea vessels strung together into a five sided figure. Their holds offered shelter and supplies for generations.

The Supreme never showed her face, even in the earliest days. Always a red mask under a red hood. She would walk among the rats, healing the wounded and caring for the sick. She built them homes and farms and factories. And soon after, the unnatural rats began to appear. Born with coats of pink or purple or blue, these rats were marked as magically sensitive. Those that could follow in the path of the Supreme. And so the Cult of the Supreme was founded on the great warship. She told the denizens of Float that it was an honor to bear an unnatural rat, and that those parents should be proud to turn their child over to the cult.

But despite training more sorceresses, the Supreme never yielded power. When even the longest living rats would have been nothing but dust, the Supreme remained. After the first age, she never walked among the rats again. Her sorceresses and knights became her agents among them. Her powers stretched into the minds of all rats. Her will pressed upon them; prevented them from leaving, from thinking anything negative about Float or the cult. She wielded absolute power over all rats.

Until the invasion of the City. Until she was betrayed by one of her most trusted and powerful sorceresses.
